PARONYCHIA
1. Staph / Strep infection (most common) in the base of the lateral nail-fold 2ry to minor trauma (e.g. nail biting). 2. Pain, redness, swelling are present. 3. By placing scalpel between nail and the skin-fold and elevating the skin, drainage is established, which is mainstay of the treatment. Pain meds and warm-water soaking are done at home. Antibiotics are controversial. |
