TOOTH  FX

 

S & S:

  1. Ellis I - enamel only is involved. Tooth looks chalky.
     
  2. Ellis II - enamel + dentine are involved. Looks yellow.
     
  3. Ellis III - enamel + dentine + pulp. Hypersensitivity  to cold and cotton.
     
  4. Loose tooth.
     
  5. Dental avulsion - tooth out of the socket

DX:

1. See above in "overview"

Treatment:

  1. Ellis I - refer to dentist
     
  2. Ellis II - Calcium Hydroxide paste applied to tooth and referred to dentist within 24 hrs.
     
  3. Ellis III - Dental consult.
     
  4. Loose tooth - soft diet and referral to dentist.
     
  5. Dental avulsion - rinse tooth in NS and place it back into the socket if less then 2-3 hr. If placement is unsuccessful, tooth can be preserved in milk or patient's own saliva.
