TUMOR LYSIS SYNDROME Etiology:
- Neoplasm (some pts are unaware of having CA)
S & S:
- Non specific or may be related to underlying disease or to complications of lysis such as HyperK, HypoCalcemia
DX:
- SMA reveals
HyperK, HyperUricemia, HypoCalcemia
EKG may have peaked T waves related to HyperK and prolonged QT secondary to HypoCalcemia
Treatment:
- Aggressive hydration
- Alkalinize urine to pH is 7.0 if hyperuricemia is present. If one uses bicarbonate to achieve this goal, careful monitoring of Ca is advised.
