CHANCROID
- Due to Haemophilus. ducreyi. Presents as painful ulcers with tender regional adenopathy. Endemic in tropics and subtropics (Africa and SE Asia).
DX
- is made by swab culture (not very sensitive). On gram stain may see a "school of fish" formation of gram – bacillus.
Treatment
- is with
Ceftriaxone 250 mg IM x 1 or Erythromycin 500 mg PO qid for 1 week. Partner must be also treated.
